T-281-82. Mortgage. Jan. 9, 1860. Allen E. McIver conveys to Thomas B. Haynsworth, equity commissioner, negro slaves Jacob, Hannah, Viney, Andrew and George, formerly belonging to the estate of B. W. T-307-08. Trust Deed of Gift. Dec. 13, 1859. David Smoot gives to Frederick F. Warley, in trust for Smoot’s daughter Elizabeth Winters, wife of John Winters, three negro slaves: Fanny, aged about 19 years, and her two children Alice and Richard, with their increase. The trust is for the sole and separate benefit of Elizabeth Winters and not liable to the debts of her present or any future husband, for her lifetime and then to her children, to be divided when the youngest reaches 21 years of age. If Elizabeth dies leaving no surviving children or leaving no children surviving to age 21, the negroes and their increase are to be divided among Smoot’s sons Thomas W., Stephen Allison, Oliver Haws, Calvin and Joshua, share and share alike. T-315-16. Trust Deed of Gift. Dec. 28, 1859. To make provision for her daughter Mary W. Law and her children, Hannah Hart conveys to Thomas C. Law, a plantation and tract of land of 1000 acres located on both sides of Black Creek and bounded by lands of Elijah Goodson, Robert L. Hart, Joseph Norwood, William King, Jr., Jacob Kelly and D. S. Law, which land formerly belonged to Thomas E. Hart and was sold as his property at sheriff sale and purchased by Jno. W. Lee [sic, should be Lide], and also slaves Henry, Ritta, Sidney, Sam, Spencer, Laura, Phillis and Daniel, with the future increase of the females. The property is conveyed to Law in trust for Hannah Hart’s daughter Mary W. Law, wife of Thomas C. Law, for her sole and separate use during her lifetime and free from her husband or any future husband’s debts. T-316-18. Mortgage. Feb. 4, 1860. To secure his bond of $6400 guaranteeing the payment of a debt of $3200 with interest owed to Mary A. Fountain, John L. Hart conveys to Mary A. Fountain seven negro slaves: Peter, Maria, Jim, Della, Maria, Emma and Tom. The conveyance is void if Hart pays his debt as agreed. Wit. A. F. Edwards, W. J. Fountain. Pr. Feb. 14, 1860. Rec. T-319-20. Bill of Sale. Dec. 20, 1859. For $200, James Jones and wife Sarah Jones sell to Solomon Wright all their interest in certain negroes with their increase: Phereba, aged about 60; Mahalla, about 30, and her two children Wesley and Andrew aged nine and seven respectively. They were property of Absolom Wright during his and his wife’s natural lives, and at their death were to be equally divided among the heirs of Jonathan Wright, deceased. Wit. Peter K. McIver, Thos. T-335. Bill of Sale. Undated. For $800 secured by James W. Mixon, James P. Wilson sells to James W. Mixon a negro boy Calvin, to be delivered on Jan. 1 next. Wit. Miles H. Joy, Aaron L. Loy. Pr. T-336-37. Deed of Gift. Feb. 28, 1860. John Young Sr. givs to his daughter Francis [sic] R. Newberry a negro girl Rachel with her increase, for her lifetime, and then to be equally divided among the heirs of her body. Wit. Jno. Culpepper, C. P. Culpeper. [sic] Pr.Mar. 20, [sic] 1860. Rec. T-346-47. Marriage Settlement. Mar. 6, 1860. Contemplating a marriage between Simon Ward and Sarah P. Leach, Sarah conveys property to William J. Carter, in trust for her sole and separate use and to remain in her possession during her life as if she were a femme sole, and then after her death to her child or children, except her granddaughter Adeline, wife of Trezevant Eddy, who is to have no share and is to be treated at the division as if she had never existed. T-385. Trust Deed of Gift. June 15, 1853. Elizabeth Welch gives to Soloman B. Wilson and Edwin Jordan, trustees for her daughter Angelina Goodson, wife of Edwin Goodson, two Negro slaves Deedham and Isom. After Elizabeth’s death the trustees are to sell the Negroes for the benefit of Angelina. Until Elizabeth’s death they are to remain under with her and under her control. Wit. G. M. McCown, T. A. T-401-02. Trust Deed of Gift. Apr. 16, 1860. Peter S. A. Bacot conveys to Archie S. Dyson, Negro slaves Frank, about 25 years, and Rose, about 12 years, with their increase, in trust for his wife Sarah J. Bacot, and after her death to their children at age 21. If no children survive, they are to be divided among Peter S. A.’s brothers and sisters Richard B. Bacot, Washington M. Bacot, Moses S. Bacot, Thomas W. Bacot, Mary H. Bacot and Hannah S. Tyson. Wit. T-413. Mortgage. Dec. 7, 1859. To secure James C. Garner and David G. Wood from their responsibilities under a promissory note of James R. McLendon owing to Allison Smoot dated Feb. 8, 1859, McLendon conveys to Garner and Wood a negro slave Drum [?], or if he dies or is otherwise disposed of, another negro slave John. T-430-31. Agreement. Mar. 31, 1860. Solomon Wright and James D. Wright confirm the settlement made between them regarding the property of Josiah Wright, deceased, and also the deed of Elizabeth Wright given to them. T-431. Deed of Gift. Dec. 16, 1853. John A. Brunson and William B. Brunson give their sisters Julia A. Cooper and Elizabeth G. Brunson, negroes Judy, Delia and Frank, now in possession of Julia A. T-437-38. Mortgage. July 2, 1860. Benjamin Clements conveys to T. B. Haynsworth, equity commissioner, Negro slaves Venus and her two children Bill and Jackson. T-438-39. Declaration of Trust. June 4, 1860. In order to comply with the equity court’s order in the case “Ex parte John B. Rhodes & wife & Thomas E. Howle in Re Levi N. Gray Executor of Benjamin W. James, against John B. Rhodes & wife & others” dated Feb. 10, 1860, ordering the investment in slaves for the benefit of Mary D. Rhodes, wife of John B. Rhodes, Thomas E. Howle declares that the Negro slaves Henry and Louisa which he bought for $2110 at the sale of the property of the estate of Benjamin W. James, deceased, were bought in trust for Mary and such other uses as were expressed in the will of James related to the share of the estate devised to Mary D. Rhodes. The equity commissioners’ report on the matter was made Feb. 16, 1860, a special report made May 7, 1860, and the order of the court made February term 1860 and the order made by Chancellor Inglis on May 11, 1860. T-440-41. Trust Deed of Gift. Aug. 6, 1860. James S. McCall, Sr., conveys to Thomas B. Haynsworth, in trust for McCall’s daughter Ann Eliza Earle, wife of George W. Earle, Negro slaves Ralph, a man about 33 years; Rose, a woman about 33 years; and Sarah, a woman about 17 years; with their increase. The trust is for Ann and George Earle, the survivor of them, and then to the children of Ann Eliza Earle. Failing children of Ann Eliza Earle, the slaves and their increase revert to the heirs of James S. McCall, Sr. Wit. W. E. McCall, James S. McCall, Jr. Pr. Aug. 6, 1860. Rec. Aug. 6, 1860.

T-441-42. Mortgage. July 16, 1860. Henry K. W. Flinn conveys to Thomas B. Haynsworth, equity commissioner, Negro slaves Howard, Susan and Henry, formerly belonging to the estate of B. W. T-467. Indenture. Dec. 20, 1860. Dennis Morgan, late of North Carolina but now of Darlington Dist., South Carolina, aged about 26 years, voluntarily and of his own accord puts and binds himself to Griffin Holliman “as a Servant or Slave to serve from the date hereof for and until the full end of the term of ninety nine years next ensueing, during all which time the said Servant or Slave his Master faithfully honestly industriously shall serve all lawful commands every where readily obey and in all things and at all times behave as a faithful Servant or Slave ought to do. He hereby relinquishes to the said Griffin Holliman the right of making contracts for him And the said Griffin Holliman shall and will furnish and provide the said Morgan during the continuance of the said term with sutiable and sufficent board, clothing and medical attendance.” Signed by Dennis Morgan (by mark) and Griffin Holliman. T-468-69. Mortgage. Dec. 3, 1860. Robert Campbell, Eli Odom and Solomon Wright convey to David G. McIntosh, executor of the estate of James H. McIntosh, negro slaves Risper [Rosser?], Andrew, Liz, Mary, Dicy, Easter and Pinckney.
