H-7. Deed of Gift. Aug. 11, 1820. James Powell gives to his children, children of his wife Mildred Powell, who are Sarah (aged about 13), Mary Ann (11), Absalom (9), Martha (7), Margarett (5), Catharine (2), land where he now lives, first granted to John Powell in 1786 and conveyed to him James Powell as son of John in 1807, and also a negro man Titus aged about 22, a negro girl Rebeckry, aged about 13, and various furniture, and the increase, to be divided when Catharine comes of age, or before if any heirs leave the property. H-17. Deed of Gift. Apr. 28, 1820. Thomas Kennedy, Sr., gives to his grandson David Kennedy, son of his son Thomas Kennedy, a negro boy Ben, about 2 years of age. Wit. Thomas McCall, William McCall, William McDowell. Pr. [n.d.]. Rec. Oct. 11, 1820.

H-33-34. Deed of Gift. June 1, 1792. Thomas Kennedy, planter, gives to his daughter Margaret Kennedy, to comply with the desire his deceased wife made before her death, a negro woman slave named Lydia. If Margaret dies without heirs, Lydia is to devolve to her sister Jane Kennedy, and thence to other heirs of the Kennedy family. Wit. J. B. Turner, John McCown. Pr. July 19, 1792. Rec. H-35-36. Deed of Gift. Dec. 25, 1820. Martha Anderson gives to her son George, two negro children Caroline and Alex. H-58. Mortgage. Jan. 26, 1821. To secure a bond securing a debt of $3500 owing to David R. Williams by Thomas E. McIver, McIver conveys to Williams negro slaves Ben, Tom, Betsey, Tenah and Prince, with the increase of the females. If McIver pays as required, the conveyance is void. Wit. D. R. W. McIver, A. M. H-83-4. Deed of Gift. Oct. 19, 1820. Elizabeth Norwood, widow, gives at her death to her sons Manasseh Norwood and Theodore Norwood, land. Three negroes Valentine, Mark and Bridget, are to be divided between her children with instructions to even out the distribution among all her children, including James Norwood, Lorenzo Norwood, Elizabeth Chandler, Theophilus, Zachariah, Jannet and Hannah. H-86. Articles of Agreement. May 20, 1820. Mason Lee covenants with Isham Parnell that he will sell to Parnell a tract of land lately purchased from Parnell, with the crop thereon, three mules now there, and three Negroes Harry, Pleasant and Annis until the crop is finished and the Negroes until the crop is housed, food for three hands, and the labor of Parnell's son Carney and John Tedder who is now hired by Lee until the crop is laid by. Parnell is to pay Lee $1300, payable Jan. 1, 1822. Parnell mortgages the land to Lee, supposed to be two tracts totalling 450 acres, as security. Wit. Geo. Bruce, Jno. B. Bruce. Pr. May 17, 1821. H-88. Bill of Sale [Mortgage]. Feb. 24, 1821. Robert Campbell sells to Moses Sanders for $225.22 ½ a Negro named Mariah, aged about 21 years. The transaction is void if Robert Campbell pays to Sanders $225.22 ½ with interest Jan. 1, 1822. Wit. Wilson Boothe. Pr. Mar. 19, 1821. Rec. May 21, 1821.

H-91-92. Mortgage. May 12, 1821. Robert Campbell conveys a Negro Mariah to Edmund Gee, as security for a note of $300 which Gee signed on Campbell's behalf securing Campbell's debt of $300 owing to Samuel Stephenson, which Campbell made in August 1820. Conveyance is void if Gee's liability is released by Campbell's paying his debt to Stephenson with interest. Wit. Jacquilling Lee. Pr. June 5, 1821. Rec. June 5, 1821.

H-93-94. Mortgage. June 8, 1821. Alexander McIntosh for $2500 conveys to Francis [Frances] C. Watson six Negroes: Dick, Scip, Friday, Plenty, Chloe and York, as well as other possessions. If McIntosh pays Watson $2482.04 as agreed by January next, the conveyance is void. Wit. Jno. L. McCollough. Pr. Jan. 7, 1822. Rec. June 12, 1821.

H-99-100. Deed. June 16, 1821. Chloe Davis sells to Newman Kershaw for $700 a female Negro slave named Cillar. Wit. P. C. Coggeshall. [Not Pr.] Rec. July 23, 1821.

H-100-01. Mortgage. May 10, 1821. To secure debt of $694 owing to Morgan G. Brown, which is secured by her bond dated May 10, 1821 in the amount of $1398, Mary McCoy Brown of Marlborough Dist. conveys to Morgan G. Brown the following Negroe Slaves: Esther, a Negro woman aged about 35 years and her four children Joe a boy, Sarah a girl, Ann a girl and Val a boy and their increase. Livery and seizen was made of the said Negroes by giving to Joseph Wright one silver dollar in the name of the whole goods and promises mentioned in the presence of David Mandeville, Jos. Brown of Marlborough Dist. for $1000 sells to Mary McCoy Brown negro slaves Esther, aged about 35 years, and her four children Joe Sarah, Ann and Val and their future increase. Wit. David Mandeville, Jos. Wright, John Rabon. Memorandum, Livery and Seizen of the Negroes was delivered by Morgan G. Brown to Mary McCoy Brown by delivering to her one silver dollar in the name of the whole goods and promises mentioned in the presence of David Mandeville, Jos. Wright, and John Rabon. Pr. H-132-33. Deed of Gift. Dec. 17, 1821. Martha Price, planter, gives to her grandchildren Agness Mattuce, Jenney Mattuce and Charles Mattuce, and to the bodily heirs of Martha's daughter Kinson [?] Perdue Mattuce hereafter begotten, a Negro woman Caroline and her increase, to be equally divided between them. Caroline is to remain in Price's possession and control during her lifetime. Division is to be made when the youngest heir comes of age. Wit. Gillis Holloman, Alfred Johnson. Postscript. H-143-44. Mortgage. Dec. 20, 1821. Martin Dewitt bought a Negro man Jim at the sale of the property of the late Mrs. Martha Smith, David Gregg and John F. Wilson, executors, for $300, payable in two years from Mar. 26 last, with interest. To secure the executors in the sum of $300 plus interest, Dewitt conveys to the executors the said Jim and Tilla his wife. If Dewitt pays as agreed, the conveyance is void. Wit. William Kirven. Pr. H-149-50. Mortgage. Aug. 31, 1815. Evander R. McIver has purchased from Edward Burch of Marion Dist. a mill seat on Jeffreys Creek, by his bond dated Aug. 24, 1815, in the sum of $2680, conditioned for the securing of the payment of $1340 with interest. John F. Wilson secured McIver's bond, and in order to secure Wilson, McIver conveys to him three Negroes: a man named Jim about 30 years old, a boy named Ben about16 years old, and boy named Pompey about 15 years old. H-152. Deed of Gift. Apr. 1, 1822. Winneford Runnels Sr. gives to Winneford Runnels Jr., for her use in trust while Winneford Sr. lives, a Negro boy Cop [sic], about 5 years old, a mare, cattle, household goods, etc. and also the 300 acre tract of land where Winneford Sr. now lives. If Winneford Jr. dies without lawful issue, the property is to return to Winneford Sr.'s heirs. Wit. Samuel L. Dubose, Peter Dubose. Pr. Apr. 3, 1822. Rec. May 13, 1822.

H-187-88. Mortgage. July 11, 1822. Richard Dudley for $675 conveys to John Selph of Cumberland Co., NC, three Negro slaves Lotty, and Mary and her child Lucy. The conveyance is void if Selph is ever obliged to pay two notes drawn by Dudley and discounted: one in the Bank of Cape Fear for $400, due June 20 last, and the other for $275, on the State Bank of North Carolina which will become due on Aug. 21 next, both which notes were endorsed by John Selph and John McKay. H-195. Deed of Gift. Feb. 8, 1823. John Gibson gives to his friend Ann Ray McCrea, wife of Capt. John McCrea and her daughter Margaret Ann McCrea, and also the future issue of the body of Ann R. McCrea, a negro woman Sannica and her small child Hamlet, with their increase, for the natural life of Ann , and then to Ann's lawfully begotten issue.
